Abstract
Urban spaces are designed for the collective use of all citizens, regardless of their physical abilities. However, individuals with disabilities often face significant barriers that limit their access and participation in urban life. This research aims to address the specific needs of people with disabilities in Seyed Ebrahim neighborhood of Tabriz, a historical and pilgrimage site. By examining the current urban environment and identifying accessibility challenges, this study seeks to advocate for inclusive urban design and promote the rights of individuals with disabilities. A mixed-methods approach was employed in this study. By employing a mixed-methods approach, including literature reviews, field observations, interviews, and questionnaire surveys, the study identifies key barriers such as inadequate seating and rest areas, insufficient ramp provision, and the presence of step barriers without alternative access options. These findings underscore the urgent need for inclusive urban design and planning to create a more equitable and accessible environment for all citizens. By incorporating universal design principles and prioritizing the needs of people with disabilities, it is possible to promote social inclusion and improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in Seyed Ebrahim neighborhood and beyond.
